SUMMARY:Nature Journaling
DESCRIPTION:Explore your creative instincts while sharpening observational skills and spending time outdoors on this family-friendly\, all-ages nature journaling field trip. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nThea Duane\, the Adirondack Land Trust’s environmental education intern\, will lead the group over trails on flat terrain at High Meadow Preserve\, a protected natural area not yet open to the public. As you meander through wildflower meadows and shady forests\, you’ll pause to sketch\, write\, make leaf rubbings\, press plants\, take photos\, and try new ways to record outdoor experiences.   \nBlank journals\, pencils\, and crayons will be provided; you are also welcome to bring your own writing and drawing materials. This trip is free\, open to all\, and limited to 15 participants. Registration is required\, and each participant must register separately.   \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Poke-O-Moonshine Interpretive Hike
DESCRIPTION:Hike a storied Adirondack peak as you explore the link between conservation and recreation on the way to a summit with a fire tower and sweeping views of Lake Champlain and the High Peaks Wilderness.   \nPoke-O-Moonshine’s exposed\, east-facing cliffs are currently known as habitat for peregrine falcons and a popular destination for rock climbers. Hikers are also drawn here\, and for years used the steep Ranger’s Trail to follow a route established when a fire observer was stationed on the mountain. The field trip will follow a more gradual ascent on the Observer’s Trail\, which climbs 2.4 miles with a vertical gain of 1\,443 feet. The Adirondack Land Trust set the stage for the Observer’s Trail in 2006 with the purchase of 200 acres that was then transferred to New York State for addition to the Forest Preserve.  \nThe field trip will be led by David Thomas-Train\, an Adirondack guidebook author and former program coordinator with Friends of Poke-O-Moonshine\, a grassroots organization dedicated to the restoration of the mountain’s fire tower and trails.  \nThe guided hike ends at the summit. Participants are welcome to enjoy the summit and hike down at their own pace. This field trip is free and limited to seven participants.  \nREGISTER HERE
