The Adirondack Land Trust is proud to have played a role in securing 13 acres underlying in-town trails at Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, in Saranac Lake. ALT provided technical assistance to Dewey Mountain Friends in negotiating purchase of a private parcel that had been the provisional heart of the recreation area’s trail system for 37 years. The parcel was transferred to the town of Harrietstown, which dedicated it as parkland, securing it forever for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, biking and trail running.

The spirit behind Dewey Mountain is contagious. This land purchase demonstrates how the tools of land conservation can help leverage local knowledge and the energy of community partners to reach a common goal.
