LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – The Adirondack Land Trust has purchased the round building at 2345 Saranac Avenue for $2.1 million, thanks to dedicated funding from anonymous donors. The land trust will transform the building, which has been unoccupied for more than 20 years, into office space for the land conservation nonprofit’s new headquarters.
“As the pace of our land and water conservation work across the Adirondack continues to accelerate, this is an exciting time for our organization to find a permanent home,” said Adirondack Land Trust Executive Director Mike Carr. “We’ve outgrown our rental space in Keene, and our future headquarters in Lake Placid will be the perfect location from which our professional staff can continue to carry out our mission.”
The estimated timeline is as follows:
- In 2026, with the building purchase complete, begin work with an architect on renovation plans.
- Through 2027-28, finalize architectural plans, engage contractors, begin renovation and construction work.
- Complete renovations and move professional staff to Lake Placid office in 2029.
The Adirondack Land Trust continues to raise additional funds for the renovations to its future headquarters. The anonymous donors who funded the building purchase have also committed to match donations up to $1 million toward this effort.
The Adirondack Land Trust, founded in 1984, works fully and exclusively across the Adirondacks to protect forests, waters, farmlands, and wild places to benefit communities and nature. The land trust holds national accreditation from the Land Trust Accreditation Commission and a Platinum Transparency rating from Candid.
